I created Cuppa Lo as a platform and business to inspire, educate and transform the way people think about food and healthy living. I believe in doing things the old school way. I believe in cooking at home a little more often and learning to love food in a balanced way. I believe that a healthy lifestyle is one immersed in COMMUNITY, that exercise should be functional and applicable in real, everyday life. I believe we all have unique, beautiful body types that should be celebrated and ENJOYED to the fullest. I believe instant gratification is overrated and that MINDFULNESS (in food, in movement, in life) is the key to a better life.
My passion is to teach people how to live a healthier lifestyle in a way that is practical, enjoyable and sustainable.
Here's what I DO NOT believe in (because that's important to know): restriction, doing it alone, dieting and one-size-fits-all approaches, calorie counting, quick fixes, frozen dinners and green juice for breakfast everyday. But there's more to this story:
You see, I've had my fair share of hardship in this department. In college I was diagnosed with an underactive thyroid after struggling to keep my mood and energy levels in check throughout a very rigorous performing arts program. I took the medicine, because duh -- the doctor told me to. But then I started doing some research and I realized there were other options: FOOD. EXERCISE. MEDITATION. Ya know, actually taking care of myself. So I threw out the meds and started experimenting. I eliminated grains, sugar and processed foods/drink from my diet and incorporated more healthy fats. Within the year, my thyroid levels normalized and my cholesterol levels were stellar. I couldn't believe it!
From that point on, I became completely fascinated with the notion that you could fix your body with food. FOOD IS MEDICINE. From there, I poured over research verifying the powerful capabilities of a mindful approach to food, movement and lifestyle. I found that exercise for weight loss is completely absurd. Movement is for community, for enjoyment and for living life to the fullest. And the glue that holds all of it together? Mindfulness. Tony Robbins says, "Where focus goes, energy flows." In other words, you can control your thoughts and that knowledge will change your life. Mindfulness practice will take you anywhere you want to go with food, with fitness, with life.
>> Y'all. This is incredible news. <<
Most of us can start feeling astronomically better, happier, MORE ALIVE by simply adjusting our approach to food, exercise and our thoughts. Here's the thing: I want to build a community of imperfect people (because aren't we just fooling ourselves if we think we're anything but?) willing to be authentic in what they're going through. My programs are not about perfection. They're about rediscovering your intuition, your authentic self.
My health philosophy is not about avoiding death
and it's not about turning back time to become young again.
it's about enjoying
Sound like something you'd be into?
